The Finance Department investigates best rates and
procures loans at the institution that will be most
advantageous for the Town to do business with. The investment
of idle funds is investigated to its fullest to obtain
the maximum return on the Town’s monies. The Department
manages and insures that all Town properties are covered
with the correct property liability coverage. The Finance
Department also handles all payroll, taxes, workmen’s
comp cases, insurance and all other related deductions
for the entire employee base in the Town, including
the Police Department. The Finance Officer prepares
each fiscal years budget, ensuring that a balanced budget
is maintained. The Town’s financial reporting
process has been done in an award-winning manner since
2001 and is under consideration for another award for
the current fiscal year. The Town’s financial
reporting has been awarded the standard of excellence
longer than any other public entity in Haywood County.
The Town’s current property tax rate is $0.42
per $100 value. In order to help you understand how
taxes are figured an example is shown below:
This is an example for a house and property valued
at $200,000.
($200,000 / 100) x $0.42 = $840 annual property tax.
